I talked with my birthmom today about what I was told at Cartoon Network
Apparently it was scam. They try to convince students to not graduate so that they can be hired by entertainment studios for lower prices and stay locked in bottom-rung animation positions by the ‘sorry, this position requires a degree’ glass ceiling. This practice is called ‘poaching’ and a lot of studios in LA, especially the Burbank Area, are notorious for it.
please, PLEASE spread this like my original post was spread. I feel terrible about sharing that information now because it is MEANT to hold artists back for the benefit of money, not creativity. And that’s fucking shitty of them.
Having a degree in the entertainment business is important. It will help you get past Human Resources. They are the gatekeepers to the important people in the industry and that little piece of paper that says you’re qualified is all they fucking care about. To go through any other way is 100% tougher, even if your art is fab.
Disney Princesses in Accurate Period Costumes
Claire Hummel, an illustrator with a passion for historically accurate costuming recently reworked many of the famous ladies, giving them new garb fitting a stylish member of their periods society. As you can see in her version of Snow White above (based on early 16th century Germany), many of the original Disney costumes weren’t far off, while a few are vastly different. For more of Hummel’s excellent work, see her website.
this is absolutely stunning.
