Warner Bros gets excited about the Japanese premiere and there will be a worldwide release!
This was announced on September 2nd during a stage greeting for the movie. Sato expressed, “Since before we started filming, director Otomo Keishi and I talked about releasing this to the world, so I’m happy our dream has come true.”
In the first 8 days after its premiere, ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ pulled in over 1.21 billion yen (over $15 million USD) at the box office. Since then, it’s been receiving offers for distribution from various countries. Director Otomo commented, “I knew it originally had a good theme, so I’m happy to see this outcome.”
According to this website, countries where the pic is set to screen include Germany, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. The U.S. is not yet on the list.
Takei, who plays the heroine in the film, stated, “I’m embarrassed, but I’m excited to see what kind of reaction we will receive from overseas. I want to go overseas with everyone!”
Although this was a surprise stage greeting, the theater was filled to capacity. Sato expressed relief saying, “I’m really happy. I wanted many people to watch it, so I have advertised it more than ever. I feel everyone’s feelings were rewarded.” Takei added, “This is my first stage greeting after it’s been screened. Today has become a special day.”
